Finishing with hardwax oil
A practical guide to caring for oiled timber so it looks better every year.

Hardwax oil soaks into the surface rather than sitting on top, so the timber still feels like wood. It is also easy to repair: a scratch can usually be dealt with locally rather than refinishing the whole piece.
Everyday care
Wipe up spills promptly and clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, and use coasters under hot or wet items.
Annual refresh
Once a year, clean the surface and apply a thin coat of the manufacturer’s maintenance oil. Buff it off after twenty minutes and let it cure for a day.
