Sustainable sourcing
We trace every board to a managed forest, favouring UK and European timber with certified provenance.
Our story
We are a collective of designers and master joiners united by one obsession: the pursuit of perfection in wood.
Hartwell & Finch began in 2012 as a small workshop dedicated to traditional hand tools. Over the last decade we have grown into a full-scale architectural joinery firm, yet our soul remains in the sawdust of that first studio.
We believe true luxury lies in the unseen details: the precision of a dovetail, the warmth of a hand-planed surface and the ethical sourcing of every board.
Our philosophy is simple. Nature has already done the hard work. Our job is to listen to the material, respect its grain and character, and turn it into spaces that endure.
Founded in a single-bay workshop by Eleanor Hartwell, focused on hand-tool furniture.
Moved to a larger Leeds workshop and introduced CNC machining alongside hand skills.
Launched our interiors division, working with architects on fit-outs and joinery.
Won a regional design award and began our apprenticeship programme.
Core principles
We trace every board to a managed forest, favouring UK and European timber with certified provenance.
CNC accuracy where it helps, hand finishing where it matters. Every joint is checked before assembly.
We avoid trends. Proportion, utility and honest materials age gracefully over decades.
